This week marks the beginning of Digital Storytelling, which I anticipate is going to be a lot of fun to learn about. We were introduced to some examples of digital stories, which I enjoyed very much and can't wait to learn how to create one of my own.
One of our ongoing assignments is to take a picture a day and post it to posterous.com, which I thought would be easy but now I'm not so sure! I find myself over thinking this and need to just do it. I like the idea and am curious how the photos will be used down the line.
We also had to tell a story of our lives as we see it in the future. I found this exercise to be difficult in the sense that I was originally going to make it humorous and fantasy-like (a happily ever after story) but ended up keeping it more realistic. I anticipate we will be using this story for the basis of a digital story project...
As I said, I am looking forward to gaining new skills in the area of digital storytelling that I can use at work to enhance training and marketing materials, as well as in my personal life to prepare something special to share with my family.
Sue, the first few days I found my self over analyzing how or what I was going to take pictures of. After a few days, I decided I am going to cut to the chase and just capture anything I think can be useful. After all, we will have 28 days of pictures and I don't think we are going to be using all of them at the end of the four week period. So far I have narrowed down my pictures to family, friends, and pets, but as the days go on, I probably will expand my horizons. I also had difficulty writing my "future" story, but after finishing it, it was kind of fun and really made me think of what might lie ahead of me in the future.
ReplyDeleteSue,
ReplyDeleteI too am in the same boat as you. What are we using the pictures for? If I knew, I would like to take certain pictures etc. However, I do not know, so I try to remember to take a picture each day so I do not forget!
Also, writing a story about the future is very hard. It is hard to write like I am in the future when I am still so young and not sure what I want to what is ahead of me. I was able to make something up though. :)
The great thing about stories is that there are many endings possible to any story. You can always start with a realistic story and have it become whatever you wish. I think as we go on with the picture taking assignment we will find lots of new ideas for how the stories might end.
ReplyDeleteYou are taking pictures to get used to taking pictures and the more one takes the better you can get. And the story was just to practice the idea of writing a story. For many of us it's been a while since we've done that.
